With an impressive and diversified resume, Father Thomas Maikowski maintains an equal commitment to academia and the Catholic priesthood. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Thomas Maikowski spent his childhood and adolescence attending elementary and secondary Catholic schools. After graduation, Thomas Maikowski entered Saint Francis de Sales College in Milwaukee, where he declared his major in theology and minor in philosophy. In 1970, Thomas Maikowski earned a B.A. from Saint Francis de Sales College and subsequently moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Thomas Maikowski immediately pursued a M.S. degree in Secondary Education from Saint Francis College, which he gained in 1972. Returning to Milwaukee, Thomas Maikowski chose to further his education at Cardinal Stritch College (now Cardinal Stritch University). In 1974, Thomas Maikowski received an M.A. in special religious education and joined the Kenrick Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri. At Kenrick, Thomas Maikowski focused on the pragmatic studies of pastoral theology and earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1976. The next year, Thomas Maikowski acquired a second Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Notre Dame College in Saint Louis and a Master’s degree in Education from Marquette University in Milwaukee. With two undergraduate and four graduate degrees in hand, Thomas Maikowski received a myriad of ministry appointments in Gallup, New Mexico, where he served a vast range of Catholics in the Northwestern New Mexico and Northeastern Arizona region. Thomas Maikowski’s first assignment was to serve as Administrator and Teacher at Cathedral High School (Gallup Catholic School), a post he held from 1976 to 1978. At Cathedral High School, Thomas Maikowski continued his own academic pursuits, which led to doctoral studies at Saint Louis University in Missouri. In 1980, Thomas Maikowski merited a Ph.D. in Education and returned to Gallup to resume administrative duties as the Superintendent of Schools. During his 10-year tenure as Superintendent, Thomas Maikowski completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Dayton. Thomas Maikowski ultimately earned an Ed.D. from the University of San Francisco in 1992 with the dissertation “A Study of the Criteria Used in Altering the Grade Structure of Catholic Secondary Schools to Include Grades Seven and Eight, As Perceived by Diocesan Superintendents and Secondary School Principals.” Thomas Maikowski continues to serve as a pastoral administrator and in various ministries in Gallup.
