Learning in New Communities Coordinator, Chicago Public Schools • Instituted a virtual high school program in all Learning in New Communities (LINC) schools. This pilot program is the first of its kind within the Chicago Public Alternative High School network. • Instituted a career readiness program that integrates seamlessly with existing curriculums across all core subjects. Assistant to the Board, Chicago Board of Education • Managed public relation affairs for the Board of Education President and members. Primary tasks included writing speeches, remarks and talking points for the board president and members, as well as, serving as project manager for assigned projects and creating and implementing city-wide initiatives. Also served as Board Office liaison for the Department of Sports Administration, High School Development, After School Matters and Education-to-Careers. • Coordinated Chicago Public Schools’ first ever city-wide student teen anti-violence summit using distance learning technology and the Internet. More than 20,000 students were impacted. As a result, the school system has conducted three additional teen summits. • Instituted a system-wide high school program called Just Go! Student Attendance Club designed to encourage students to create local programs and incentives that would get students interested in coming and staying in school. The program was established in 46 high schools in 2003-2004 academic year impacting 40,000 students. Attendance rates rose in 12 high schools. MEDIA LIAISON, Chicago Public Schools Department of Communications • Coordinated and managed communications for six departments; conducted crisis management for department chiefs; managed multicultural marketing and brand management for six departments and edited written submissions for the Chicago Educator print and online editions.
